Tomorrow, January 20th, 2017, the United States of America will inaugurate its 45th president, Donald Trump. He was elected in large part because of the record number of evangelical voters who turned out to vote for him. They showed up to vote for him for two reasons. First, because they were sick and tired of his opponents party flag burning, God hating, sin loving ways. Second, though they had concerns about Mr. Trump’s character, they knew they could stand behind most of his policies. But, let’s be clear, Donald Trump cannot make America Great again, only God can do that.
I do not say that as a means to put down on Donald Trump. I personally believe that he has the potential to be a great leader; and, I hope he is. However, only God can make America great again. If Solomon were to be inaugurated tomorrow with all of his wisdom he would not be capable of turning this nation around. Let us not forget that Solomon lost his focus on the Lord resulting in his kingdom being divided. Today, our nation is more divided than ever and the election of Donald Trump only polarized it more. And, let’s be realistic for a moment, if he is successful he will only infuriate his opponents, who have a powerful voice, all the more, causing further division and harm to our nation. God alone can heal this nation.
My fear is that Christians think that Donald Trump’s elections is a victory for them. It isn’t. The only way we will see victory is when a mighty revival spreads across our land. I firmly believe that we need revival and spiritual awakening in our nation more today than we’ve ever needed one in our history. It was for this reason that I left the pastoral ministry and surrendered into full time evangelism. My heart burns to see revival and we are in desperate need while our nation is in grave danger if it doesn’t take place soon. Donald Trump’s election did not, and cannot bring about this needed revival. Again, only God can do that.
I firmly believe that God has given to us His formula for revival in II Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” The biggest word in this verse is the first one, if. God said “If my people who are called by my name.” Not if Donald Trump, or Washington DC, or the media, or judges, but God’s people called by His name. God is saying here, if my people who are called by my name do their part, I will do my part. And God is not a man that He should lie. If God said it, He will do it!!!
It does excite me to see how energized bible believing Christians were to turn out and vote against a candidate who was opposed to them and for a candidate who said he would stand for them. But again, that’s not the victory. Imagine for a moment if Christians were just as energized to be God’s people, humbling themselves before Him, praying, seeking His face, and turning from their wickedness for the purpose of seeking God for revival and spiritual awakening. We cannot force the hand of God to bring revival. Only He in His sovereignty can bring it about, but, I can’t help but believe that He would certainly be moved.
I don’t know about you, but I am tired of imagining it. I’m ready to see it. But it will only happen, “IF”, if God’s people who are called by His name seek him for it. Let us now start a new campaign. Let us start a campaign of seeking God’s face for the healing of our land; for revival and spiritual awakening. I’m game, are you? Share this with others as well to challenge them and pray that this will be a movement that spreads throughout this parched land like a raging wildfire.
